North Korea threatened to cancel the 1953 Korean War cease-fire amid talks of new sanctions and ongoing joint military drills between the U.S. and South Korea.
The statement was made Tuesday amid reports that the U.S. and China have reached a deal on a new set of sanctions against North Korea.
The U.S.-Chinese agreement, which enforces some existing sanctions and includes new ones, will be introduced at a U.N. Security Council meeting on Tuesday.
Beijing`s decision to strike a deal with the U.S. is seen as disapproval of Pyongyang`s behavior and is welcomed in Washington.
China is known to be North Korea’s ally for years, but Pyongyang`s third nuclear weapon test is changing Beijing`s position, especially with the new leadership.
