The Venezuelan charismatic leader Hugo Chavez lost his battle with cancer and dies at the age of 58 after leading the nation for more than 14 years.
Venezuela declared a week of mourning as schools and universities will close to give a chance for supporters to pay their respects to Chavez.
Chavez’s body will be carried today through the streets of Caracas to the military academy where he will remain for three days of public viewing before burial on March 8.
While Latin American leaders mourned the passing of Chavez, United States President Barak Obama said this is a chance to build a constructive relationship between the two countries.
Chavez will always be remembered as the leader who channeled record oil revenues to the poor, nationalized corporations and defied the United States.
The 58-year-old died on Tuesday after losing his battle with cancer sending the oil-rich country into uncertainty.
Foreign Minister Elias Jaua announced hours after Chavez`s death that Vice-President Nicolas Maduro will lead the country until new elections are be held within 30 days.
Yet uncertainty surfaced from the fact that Maduro – taking the helm in the interim – seems to be contradicting the constitution.
According to Venezuela`s constitution, head of the National Assembly, currently Diosdado Cabello, should be the interim president if the president dies but that`s already been ruled out by Maduro Jaua .
This might create tensions between the leading party and the opposition that calls for Cabello to take the helm.
But Chavez had appointed Mr. Maduro as his successor before his condition worsened and the military chiefs quickly pledged loyalty to him.
