European stocks ended the day unchanged as Chancellor Angela Merkel said that Germany would “not judge” Greece’s performance prematurely and would await the troika report that is due in September, reiterating the shared view that Merkel and Hollande shared yesterday when they concluded their meetings in Germany.
STOXX 600 ended higher today by 0.12% at 268.00; STOXX 50 ended also in green, higher by 0.26% at 2533.10.
CAC 40 Index
The French benchmark index ended in the green today to settle at 3433.21, higher by 0.65 points or 0.02%. The index opened at 3432.55 recording a high of 3442.33 and a low of 3396.81.
The best performers in terms of added value to the index were led by Sanofi which inclined 1.00% to settle at €65.35. Following was Danone SA which surged 1.35% to settle at €51.01, while coming in third was Air Liquide SA which rose 0.88% to close at €96.05.
As for the worst performing shares, they were BNP Paribas SA as it fell 1.71% to end at €34.18; ArcelorMittal as it shed 2.58% to settle at €12.29 and Vivendi SA which declined 1.17% to settle at €15.62.
German equities advanced today where the benchmark index DAX 30 ended higher by 21.50 points or 0.31% to close at 6971.07. The index opened at 6957.60 recording a high of 6990.07 and a low of 6885.98.
Driving the index higher by contributing the most to the index today were led by Bayer AG that gained 1.25% to €61.46; following was by Linde AG as it added 1.17% to €125.05 and Beiersdorf AG which added 1.13% to €57.14.
Lagging shares were Volkswagen AG which fell 2.19% to €142.60, ThyssenKrupp AG as it lost 1.52% to settle at €16.21 and BMW AG that settled at €60.05 down 1.25%.
FTSE 100 Index
The British benchmark index ended the day unchanged to settle at 5776.60. The index opened the day at 5776.60 setting the high of 5791.39 and the low of 5738.41.
Leading shares in terms of contribution today started with GlaxoSmithKlibe PLC which surged 0.69% to close at £1461.00; following was Diageo PLC which added 0.91% to end trading at £1713.50 and Standard Chartered PLC which added 1.33% to close at £1413.00.
Meanwhile, lagging shares were led by Anglo American PLC where it ended down by 2.91%, closing at £1885.00; following was Rio Tinto PLC which shed 1.59% to close at £2910.00 and BHP Billiton PLC which slipped 1.40% to close at £1933.00.
