The European stocks ended today`s session higher amid the market optimism due to rising confidence levels in euro zone from three-year lows in addition to improvement in congress negotiations about Fiscal cliff in order to avoid the U.S. from entering new recession.
STOXX 600 ended higher today by 1.16% at 276.31; STOXX 50 ended also in green, higher by 1.03% at 2558.64.
CAC 40 Index
The French benchmark index ended in the green today to settle at 3568.88 points, higher by 53.69 points or 1.53%. The index opened at 3536.63 recording a high of 3568.94 and a low of 3532.77.
The best performers in terms of added value to the index were led by BNP Paribas which inclined 2.01% to settle at €42.83. Following was Sanofi which surged 0.90% to settle at €69.47, while coming in third was Schneider Electric SA which rose 2.64% to close at €53.35.
As for the worst performing shares, they were LVMH MOET Hennssey Louis Vuitton as it fell 0.41% to end at €133.20; EDF as it shed 0.94% to settle at €14.13.
German equities advanced today where the benchmark index DAX 30 ended higher by 57.77 points or 0.78% to close at 7400.96. The index opened at 7382.55 recording a high of 7416.52 and a low of 7377.09 points.
Driving the index higher by contributing the most to the index today were led by Commerzbank AG that gained 2.59% to €1.39; following was by Heidelbergcement AG as it added 2.14% to €40.87 and K+S AG which added 2.13% to €34.46.
Lagging shares were Linde AG which fell 0.86% to €132.60, Fresenius Medical Care AG as it lost0.49% to settle at €52.38 and Muenchener that settled at €131.40 down 0.45%.
FTSE 100 Index
The British benchmark index ended the day higher to settle at 5870.30 with a gain of 67.02 points or 1.15%. The index opened the day at 5803.28 setting the high of 5883.98 and the low of 5803.28.
Leading shares in terms of contribution today started with Rio Tinto PLC which surged 5.08% to close at £3090.00; following was HSBC Holding PLC which added 1.41% to end trading at £631.60 and Vodafone Group PLC which added 1.30% to close at £160.30.
Meanwhile, lagging shares were led by Diageo PL where it ended down by 0.32%, closing at £1872.50; following was ARM Holdings PLC which shed 1.29% to close at £762.50 and Wood Group PLC which slipped 4.29% to close at £780.00.
